Hellenic Society of Rheology (HSR) - Announcement of the 10th HSR Meeting 

The Hellenic Society of Rheology (HSR) was established in 1996 by Greek rheologists residing in Greece, Cyprus and abroad. It is affiliated with the European Society of Rheology (ESR) and dedicated to the promotion of scientific activities and advancement in the fields of rheology and fluid mechanics. Following last year’s decision for postponement due to the covid-19 pandemic and in view of the return to normality, the HSR members are firmly committed to the continuation of its successful conference series that regularly attracts researchers and engineers from Greece and abroad. To this end, in line with our last year’s decision, the next meeting of the Hellenic Society of Rheology (HSR) will be held in the island of Skiathos in 2022 between June 29th and July the 2nd. In response to the HSR members sentiment it is planned as an in-person conference with full vaccination requirements for the participants, to the extent deemed necessary by the authorities at the time of the conference. It will be jointly organized by the University of Thessaly and the University of Cyprus, and the venue of the meeting will be the Skiathos Palace Hotel. 

In 2022 Professor Giuseppe (Pino) Marrucci from the University of Naples will be the honored guest speaker. Prof. Marrucci is an international expert in the field of polymer rheology. He is a prominent figure in this filed, a prolific writer of many seminal publications, with many interactions with HSR.

Scope And Topics

The Meeting is open to all scientists and engineers conducting research or interested in the field of rheology and fluid mechanics.

Besides the invited lecture by Prof. Giuseppe Marrucci as the honored guest of this meeting, the scientific program will consist of two keynote lectures, oral presentations and poster contributions.

Special emphasis will be given to the following fields of research: 

1. Rheology of polymer melts and solutions (homopolymers, heteropolymers, composites, associating systems, synthetic and biological) 
2. Particulate dispersions (including active and granular matter) 
3. Emulsions, foams and interfacial rheology
4. Microfluidics and non-Newtonian fluid mechanics 

Virtual Special Issues

The Organizing Committee  of HSR2022 is pleased to announce that selected papers from the Conference Program, along with selected papers from the scientific community, will be published in two Virtual Special Issues (VSI) of the Journal of Non-Newtonian Fluid Mechanics dedicated to Profs Pino Marrucci and Evan Mitsoulis, respectively (both plenary speakers of HSR2022), in honor of their contributions to the advancement of the fields of Rheology and Non Newtonian Fluid Mechanics. 

Profs Housiadas & Vlassopoulos will be the editors of the VSI dedicated to Prof. Marrucci and 

Profs Dimakopoulos & Georgiou will be the editors of the VSI dedicated to Prof. Mitsoulis

In this context it was also decided to extend the abstract submission process until the 17^th of April.

Short Course Announcement

Encouraged by the success of the organization of the Short Course in Modern Rheometry that took place before the commencement of the 2019 HSR conference in Samos, HSR plans on offering an one day Short Course in Non-Equilibrium Thermodynamics Modeling of the Rheology and Transport Phenomena.

It will be provided by Professor Antony N. Beris on the use of NonEquilibrium Thermodynamics to describe rheology and transport phenomena, especially for complex, heterogeneous systems with internal microstructure, especially when multiple transport (and also perhaps reactions and/or multiple phases) are taking place.  The short course is aiming to introduce the fundamental principles, work out simple examples, and provide a working framework to build up the governing equations in complex fluids.  Notes will be distributed and no further knowledge other than that provided in undergraduate fluid mechanics, transport phenomena and thermodynamics courses is needed, making it therefore suitable for graduate students who want to learn more on this exciting subject and its potential in modeling complex fluid dynamics.

The short course will take place on June 29th, the day prior to the opening of the conference scientific program, and is also viewed as a prelude to the research presentations that will be included in the regular conference program.
